Montreal’s Majical Cloudz will release Impersonator on May 21 via Matador. As a follow-up to 2012âs II, Impersonator finds Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto working âto create negative space in songsâ by bringing Welshâs baritone into focus atop a deliberate mix of shadowy, minimal electronic music. The albumâs lyrics, which navigate death, patience, family, and desire, are a point of emphasis amidst the recordâs sparse production. âThe vision for Impersonator,â says the vocalist, âwas to communicate a lot with as little as possible.â
I am not very far into the first song and already I can tell that this album is going to be very, very cool.
